MUSE of FIRE - at Acadia Rep
Conductors are not born. THEY ARE FORGED IN FURY.
Hat City Music Theater, Inc. proudly presents the world premiere of MUSE of FIRE, a remarkable one-person play with music about a tyrannical conductor and his apprentices. Written and performed by David Katz, MUSE of FIRE is directed by Tony Award-winning actor and acclaimed Broadway and opera director, Charles Nelson Reilly.
For twenty-seven summers, Maestro Charles Bruck reigned as the undisputed master of the Pierre Monteux School for Conductors in Hancock, Maine. Demonic in his fury, Bruck's rages were legendary, but so was his acerbic wit and his uncompromising fealty to everything great music should be.
Now, from the pen of one of Bruck's own "Old Boys", comes an extraordinary one-person play with music about this musical tyrant and his apprentices. Already hailed in preview performances in his native Connecticut, David Katz's MUSE of FIRE paints a fascinating portrait of a great conductor's struggle to forge pupils in the flames of his own passion for the art.
Written to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Maestro Bruck's death in July 2005, MUSE of FIRE is a frightening, funny and ultimately touching living memoir.
Anyone who has every wondered how conductors make great music should not miss this unique theatrical event, presented in Maine prior to its off-Broadway engagement in 2006.
