ABOUT THE 48 HOUR FILM PROJECT

The 48 Hour Film Project, the first and biggest timed film competition in the world, brings filmmaking teams together to make a movie from scratch.  Filmmakers write, shoot, edit and score a film in two days.

This unique event begins in New York on Friday, June 10th when each team draws a genre out of a hat.  All teams are given the same character, prop, and line of dialogue which they must incorporate into their films.

Then, on Sunday, June 12th, the bleary-eyed filmmakers race to the finish line to submit their film by the 7:30 pm deadline.  No exceptions!!  No amount of crying, pleading or death threats will soften the heart of the New York Producer.

On June 17, 18, 19, all films will be viewed on the big screen in front of a packed house.  Three judges will vote on which film deserves the honor of "Best of New York" film while the audience will vote for their favorites.

The Best of New York screening will be Friday, June 24.

This is a competition that is exciting, exhilarating, frustrating, exhausting and pure fun!

The winning New York team will compete against other films at the 48 Hour Film Project's Filmapalooza, our international screening and awards event.  International winners screen at Cannes!
