This Twisted Tale
Dance Brigade's Down and Dirty Dance Series presents The Paper Doll Militia and Sweet Can Circus!

The Paper Doll Militia announces their newest full length aerial theatre production, This Twisted Tale.  In this modern fairytale they fuse high octane aerial arts, acrobatics, original music, animation, and shadow puppetry.  The dark tale enacts a strange encounter between a misfit little girl and an unpredictable and crass incarnation the Devil.  Join us in this unique, magical and provocative performance that uses invented aerial apparatus: a street lamp, monkey bars and a chain swing!

The Paper Doll Militia bring with them new collaborations with a fresh creative team: world renowned theatre director Ben Harrison, Scotland-based composer and musical master David Paul Jones, and technical director Mike Estee along with several other Bay Area artists collaborators.  After showcasing This Twisted Tale in the Bay Area, The Paper Doll Militia is pressing onward to The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the largest theatre festival in the world!

Sweet Can's Jamie Coventry in conjunction with Circus of Sound opens the evening in "Twisted Tunes", a toe tapping mixture of music, circus and comedy. Featuring beatbox juggling power-house Bronkar Lee, Jamie Coventry with the Tin Sandwich harmonica trio , and "new vaudeville" physical comedian, Tommy Twimble from Portland Oregon. Come witness circus and music twisted into one outrageous good time.

Sweet Can Productions was started in 2006 by Beth Clarke, Kerri Kresinski and Daniela Steiner.  Its mission is to create intimate, heartfelt performances in which the audience and performer easily connect with one another. Sweet Can presents the circus performer as a human being, accessible to everyone, and uses the performer's circus skills to make connections by demonstrating the shared emotional experiences that unite us all.

About the Down and Dirty Dance Series:
Dance Brigade's Dance Mission Theater is an artist-centered space that exists to foster community, encourage innovative collaborations and nurture emerging dancers and choreographers. In these trying times when funding is slashed at every turn, Dance Brigade kicked up its heels, swept up the dust, and produced the second annual Down and Dirty Dance Series - aka D.I.R.T. (Dance in Revolt-ing Times). Dance Brigade away seven weekends in their 140-seat black box theater to 12 tremendous artists to help offset the costs of creating. Here's to keeping art alive!

Tickets are $16 in advance, $20 at the door.  For more information call 415-273-4633.
