Red Hook Walking Tour
Have you heard? A farm grows in Brooklyn! Home to the new Fairway, and the soon to be completed IKEA, Red Hook, Brooklyn, an historically industrial neighborhood, isolated by limited public transportation, is bursting with culinary treats and freshly grown vegetables. Join Hilary Maler to explore this culinary destination and learn about this historically important waterfront neighborhood and local haunts that draw people here. You will stop at the Added Value farm, where you can buy freshly picked veggies. Visit the Central American food stalls for a feast of tamales, grilled corn, ceviche and other treats. Quench you thirst with a visit to Sixpoint Craft Ales Brewery and a stop at LeNell, a "wine and spirit boutique" that specializes in bourbons and other libations from small, women- or family-owned wineries and distilleries. Visit the home of the famous Steve's Key Lime Pies and Baked, a local bakery specializing in baked goods (we'll try their famous Sweet and Salty cake). The tour will also include a stop at the new Fairway, in an old coffee warehouse, where you can pick up your grocery staples to complement your fresh, Brooklyn grown produce. For those returning to Manhattan, hop on one of New York City's Water Taxis. The tour will meet at 11 am on the steps of the Red Hook Pool, at the corner of Clinton and Bay Streets. Take the F/G train to Smith & 9th Street then hop on the B77 bus Clinton and walk south 1 block.
