Mana HASHIMOTO: http://www.manahashimoto.com/ Mana Hashimoto began classical ballet training when she was four years old in her native Japan. She moved to the U.S. in 1993 to study jazz piano at the New England Conservatory of Music and Berklee Academy of Music in Boston. In 1997, she moved to New York for modern dance training at the Martha Graham School. She was also enrolled at Queens College Dance Department and Peridance.
Mana became totally blind in 1998. Through her experience of being blind, she discovered her own way of approaching dance and developed the use of other senses such as touching, hearing and smelling. Her aim on the stage is to share the space as a three-dimensional space with people through an imaginary visual sense as well as sound, smell and touch. Her original movement, which comes from her internal image, uses rhythm uniquely. She sees her body as an instrument.
Mana performs and teaches internationally and routinely collaborates with visual artists, dancers, musicians, and filmmakers. In addition to her dance and choreographic experience, she is an accomplished musician as both an improviser and composer. She is also interested in ecology and hopes to create a better environment by working with community through the arts.
Thank you! Please arrive a few minutes early to settle your things. Wear layered clothes that allow for movement and keep you warm/cool as needed. Bring simple snacks, water, notebook. We work in bare feet. Contact Nicole with any questions: Nicole, blushingpoppy@gmail.com, 773.387.8418
