Nationally known storyteller Kevin Kling returns to Open Eye with musicians Jacqueline Ultan and Michelle Kinney, with direction by Michael Sommers, for an evening of story, song, and imagery.
Hammer, Anvil, and Stirrup was originally created in 2014 and is back for a limited run. In this show, named for the tiny powerful bones of the inner ear, the trio explores through word and music the science of waves in sound, light, water, and emotion. How do these waves affect us on conscious, spiritual, and physical levels with their power of healing? Kling's innate sense of observation brings an astute perspective with stories that are always timely. Hammer, Anvil, and Stirrup is a mixture of folktales, historical accounts of science, and personal stories, along with necessary persistent postulations.
Those of you who know Mr. Kling's work through MPR broadcasts or his performances at the Fitzgerald Theater, Open Eye's intimate 90-seat venue provides the rare opportunity to hear this story concert up close, as if he were sitting in your own living room. Kevin Kling is a superb storyteller whose tales can revive a soul and, with the music of Ultan and Kinney, this work will go right to your core.
