SLIFE: Culturally Responsive Teaching
The Multicultural and Multilingual Center of Portland Public Schools announces a one-day institute to be held on Friday, September 18, 2015, 8:30-3:30, at the Central Offices of Portland Public Schools. The institute is designed for administrators, program directors, ELL and classroom educators of upper elementary and above, and school counselors, and adult educators in programs serving Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE).
The one-day conference is led by Dr. Helaine Marshall, a nationally recognized expert on Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE). This full-day workshop includes
-Introduction to SLIFE
-Overview of the Mutually Adapted Learning Paradigm (MALP),designed to transfer SLIFE to the demands of formal education.
-Participatory activities designed to prepare the participants to implement MALP for SLIFE.
-Copy of the book Breaking New Ground, which provides a complete presentation of the MALP instructional model .
Participants will work together to design a MALP project and share their plans with colleagues for analysis and feedback. Participants will leave the workshop with all of the MALP projects created that day and the book Breaking New Ground.
Lunch is included. Street Parking.
