Event
Helping Hands for Hope
This special evening will include performances by beloved San Francisco vocalist Mikio Hirata (his first performance in nearly 5 years!), award-winning dancer Chihiro Kurozumi and the Kizan All-Stars led by shakuhachi flute master Kizan Daiyoshi with Yuko Shirota (Piano/Composition/Music Direction), Tommy G. (Sax/Flute), Matsuken (Drums/Percussion) and Kazuo Kurozumi (Bass Guitar).
The concert will feature a dynamic fusion of both original contemporary numbers and pieces based on a more classic Japanese style. Mikio Hirata won the San Francisco Cabaret Gold Award for 1986 and was a Best Cabaret Performance nominee 4 years in a row. Chihiro Kurozumi has won numerous awards for both ballet and modern dance and now concentrates on creating improvised dances in collaboration with live musicians. Kizan Daiyoshi is one of the pioneers in expanding the horizon of the traditional shakuhachi into contemporary music.
All proceeds from this one-night-only event will be sent to help with relief efforts in the Tohoku region of Japan. This concert is produced in conjunction with Theatre of Yugen, a registered non-profit organization.
