Digital Storytelling Workshop
Digital Storytelling is an evolving concept and medium that puts the creative power of authorship in the hands of everyday citizens. A digital story can be as simple as an audio slideshow posted on a blog, or as complicated as a video-narrative that combines still images, moving images, audio voice over, music and/or ambient sound. This class will examine digital storytelling in the form of a short narrative piece, created by one or more people with a particular point of view, story to tell, or perspective on an issue.
Using a hands-on curriculum, participants will discover various modes of expression using photography, audio recordings, text and video. Discussions will focus on when and how to use these storytelling techniques and in what ways these creative practices can foster communication between people as well as educate, celebrate, and share perspectives with a wide digital audience.
Materials needed: One digital camera per student; a digital recorder that records in either WAV or MP3 format. It is very important that the recorder has a download function and can be transferred to a laptop computer. Recommended: SONY ICDPX820 Digital Voice Recorder/Reg or the Olympus VN-8100PC Digital Voice Recorder; and 1 USB Memory Stick.
