Sacred Music, Sacred Dance Performance

ABOUT: Unity of Fairfax is pleased to present a 6-day event with Tibetan Buddhist Monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery, located near India. As part of their world tour with The Mystical Arts of Tibet, the monks will be visiting the D.C. area from August 4 through August 9. While at Unity of Fairfax, they will construct a mandala sand painting and present traditional rituals and performances. Unity of Fairfax invites you to attend Sacred Music, Sacred Dance Performance on Saturday, August 8 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

WHAT: Ancient societies throughout the world conceived that ritual performance of sacred music and dance at auspicious times establishes communication with the higher powers of good and brings about healing on environmental, social, and personal levels.

In Tibet, whenever a monastery celebrated a spiritual festival, people from the surrounding villages and nomadic tribes would assemble in the monastery's courtyard for the three or four days of sacred music and dance.

Sacred Music, Sacred Dance Performance comprises selections believed to generate energies conducive to world healing. Robed in magnificent costumes and playing traditional Tibetan instruments, the Loseling monks perform ancient temple music and dance for world healing. The performance will last approximately one hour, including introductory comments.
