17th annual Afro Roots World Music Festival
This year we have expanded the festival to a three day format which kicks off with a free event on Thursday, August 06, 2015 at Blackbird Ordinary, 729 SW 1st Ave. in the heart of Downtown Miami. The event will showcase two bands starting with Colombian Roots group Patacon Conspiracy and will conclude with Traditional Cuban Son Group Cortadito. There will also be a global bazaar with a variety of arts and craft vendors to choose from. The second day on August 07. 2015 will take place at the Little Haiti Cultural Center, 212 NE 59 Terr., in the heart of Little Haiti in Miami. This day is the conference day of the festival and will feature a variety of bands in what we are calling a Global Local Showcase. Scheduled to perform are Grammy Nominated groups Conjunto Progreso and Palo!, Afro Cuban Folklore Ensemble Los Herederos, the Afrogalactic Tropidelic group Nag Champayons, and finally the Kora stylings of Senegalese artist Morikeba Kouyate. The event will also feature panel discussions, lectures , and workshops by some of the top industry professionals in the business. Topics will focus on the Business of World Music and will give artist an inside look into management, publishing, collecting royalties, and booking tours.The 2nd day of the festival will run from 5pm to 1am and is open to all ages. Tickets to the Day 2 event will run $15.00 at the door, $10.00 for students and Seniors with ID, and free for children 12 and under. The third and final day of the festival is our Headliners concert taking place at the North Beach Bandshell, 7275 Collins Ave., Miami Beach 33141. The event will open with the Brazilian Carnival sounds of Bateria Unidos de Miami followed by Grammy nominated Colombian Reggae superstars Locos Por Juana. This years festival headliner is Moroccan artist Hassan Hokmoun who plays a style of traditional music from the Gnawa peoples of Marrakesh. The festival will also feature a variety of DJ's throughout Day 2 and Day 3 including DJ Le Spam, DJ Lance O , And DJ Moses. Tickets to the Day 3 event will run $15.00 at the door, $10.00 for students and Seniors with ID, and free for children 12 and under.
