In the company of Crooked Still, Joy Kills Sorrow and Sarah Jarosz, Laura Grill found her voice at the New England Conservatory. Tonight at The Lizard Lounge, along with her fantastic band, Laura releases her debut CD, Never Before. Although clearly infused with Jazz and Classical sensibilities the Laura Grill Band sound is undeniably folk. Reflective lyrics are combined with tastes of chamber music, improvisation and four part harmonies to create a sound that is all her own. Never Before is a collection of intimate songs recorded one-hundred percent live in a picturesque snowy cabin in New Hampshire.
Opening the show will be sets by the talented fiddler Mia Friedman and the amazing Mr. Sister - a.k.a Amelia Emmet. Amelia plays dark yet infectious pop songs with a lush assortment of instruments. Originally known as Dogs and Trains and later as Brother/Sister, Amelia expertly marries the sounds of accordion, banjo, trombone, and acoustic guitar with her captivating voice and exceptional lyrics. Amelia is frequently accompanied by Faces on Film singer Mike Fiore and Hallelujah the Hills' Elio DeLuca and Brian Rutledge.
