Performance Class for Stand-up Comedy with Will Durst
Making people laugh out loud on purpose against their will; it's an honorable goal. Not one, however, for the faint of heart or individuals whose innards have not officially been classified by the National Geological Society as possessing a #7 Iron Stone rating.
There are so many intangibles that can scuttle the most hardened pro's performance. Like microphones with less dynamic range than a chainsaw. Having the audience being better lit than the performer. Performing on stages shakier than Donald Trump's understanding of the term, "restrained elegance." Bar blenders set on 747 Jet Engine Three, hecklers, drunken hecklers, drunken hecklers whose beards have caught fire, drunken club owners, drunken family members, drunken bachelorette parties wearing lace penises on their head, etc.
Proper preparation can eliminate most of these distractions, relegating them to white noise in the background of a perfectly functioning routine. How? Ah hah! Well, that's the point, isn't it kiddo? Ante up and find out. In this patented workshop, Will Durst teaches you the basic skills of maintaining and moving on. Along the way, we will also talk about timing, character, writing, publicity, the new media, representation and a furtive glimpse into bag of accumulated tricks every true professional carries around in his back pocket.
Performance Class with Will Durst Saturday, June 18th, 12-2pm, $50 San Francisco Comedy College 442 Post St., 5th Floor San Francisco, CA 94102
Call the SFCC at (415) 921-2051 or email Rich at Richsfcc@yahoo.com to reserve your spot!
Will Durst is a professional comedian who has been called "possibly the best political comic working in the country today," by the New York Times. He has been performing for 37 years, most of which as a national headliner, and is respected by critics and peers alike. However, at this point, he should be much more famous. Durst will also reveal numerous career pitfalls, all of which he didn't just step, but laid face down, which hopefully you will avoid. This workshop is mainly focused for the working comic, but all comers are welcome.
