Ashes For a Setting Sun
At long last, you get to see the fruits of the labors of the three Baltimore playwrights who won Yellow Sign Theatre's Kroger Babb play writing contest.
In late February, we released a poster with the title "Ashes For a Setting Sun" attached to it, and invited playwrights to give us a 20 minute play to go with it. (Just as exploitation film making great Kroger Babb used to with his films).
The plays we received were judged by local actor Mattie Rogers, actor/writer/director Alex Hacker, and writer/film director Chris LaMartina, and three winners were selected. These plays will be performed 5 times during ArtScape!
They are: 3rd place, Ashes For a Setting Sun by Lisa Salkov -- a young, starry-eyed burlesque dancer finds the business a bit more than she bargained for.
2nd place, Ashes For a Setting Sun by Pat Storck -- two kidnappers debate what to do with the victim locked in their trunk...tthey have a flat, the sun is going down, and they've kidnapped a vampire
1st place, Ashes for a Setting Sun by Patrick Brennan -- in a lawless Old Western town, two old friends have it out...with the harshest of time limits set against them.
Each play runs approximately 20 minutes and all will be performed during each ArtScape performance.
Come celebrate original theatre in Baltimore!
