Opera Early and Ancient - Cupid and Death
San Francisco Renaissance Voices' (Todd Jolly, Music Director) Opera Early & Ancient mini-series returns featuring Cupid & Death by Matthew Locke (1621-1677) based on the libretto by Christopher Gibbons. Locke's engaging masque finds Cupid and Death spending the weekend at the same country inn where they accidentally exchange arrows ... pandemonium ensues as Cupid shoots potential lovers and inadvertently kills them, and Death shoots at those whose time of passing has come, and strikes them ardent. Mother Nature and the god Mercury intervene to return everything to order and banish the mischievous Cupid.
