The fresh face of indie pop arrives at the Lizard Lounge for three weeks in July. 7/7, 7/21 and 7/28 mark the continuation of a growing buzz that the band has created with local gigs at smaller venues around town. Each week will feature a special guest playing a short middle set. Look for updates here or at www.lizardloungeclub.com Tonight it's indie-pop sensation The Grownup Noise!
Field Day, a local quartet that includes former Globe critic Joan Anderman and current Globe design chief Dan Zedek among its ranks. Recorded at the Somerville studios Armory Sound and Q Division, "Field Day" opens with "Caroline (Crawling)," which combines loopy and churning guitars in a way that's slightly anthemic; Zedek penned it and "Starlight," which starts off jittery but segues into a sweet, chiming shuffle.
THE GROWNUP NOISE Since releasing their self-titled debut in 2007, Boston's The Grownup Noise have evolved into a rousing and innovative pop-music outfit, bridging the gap between americana and indie music. Too young to sing earnestly about jumping trains, and too old to be indie-rock hipsters, they've shared stages with everyone from Tommy Stinson of The Replacements, Aimee Mann, Counting Crows, the Young@Heart Chorus, Lucius, comedian Patton Oswalt, to fellow avant-baroque musicians like Dresden Doll Amanda Palmer, Thao with the Get Down Stay Down (Kill Rock Stars), and acclaimed Canadian barnstormers Rock Plaza Central.
MORE ON FIELD DAY... Anderman's harmonies on that track are a particular highlight, as are the two tracks where she takes lead, the brooding "Lovely Ghost" and the loping "Dr. Mesmer." Available on CD and download via Bandcamp (www.fielddaymusic.bandcamp.com), "Field Day" recalls a time when seven-inches ruled the schools and their in-house stations' playlists. (Out now)
