NJW Snap on 2&4 w/ Chris West
Please join us on Friday, July 10 at 8pm as we welcome saxophonist Chris West and his band to the next Snap on 2&4 concert.

Based in Nashville, Chris West has been composing/arranging for the past 18 years. An accomplished saxophonist/flutist/woodwindist, West has been working as a freelance musician for 20 years in Nashville TN. West holds a Bachelor's degree in Commercial Music Performance/Composition, and a Master's degree in Jazz Studies. In 1998, his song "Dreams" was nominated for a Nashville Music Award (NAMMY), and in 2012 he had two songs in the finals of the International Songwriting Competition. His first solo album entitled "Jazzmanic" was released in 2006 and features 9 original compositions.

In 2011, West released a three-album work entitled "The Surprise Trilogy", which has been reviewed in Downbeat, Jazztimes, and many other prestigious publications, as well as received radio play throughout the US.

In addition to his own original work, West has written string and horn arrangements for many Nashville based sessions, and was hired to perform on the soundtrack of the HBO movie "Boycott". He has toured/performed/recorded with top artists such as My Morning Jacket, Brenda Lee, Charles Walker, Carrie Underwood, Johnny Reid, Dr. Lonnie Smith, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Brian Setzer, among others. Currently, West leads and composes for an experimental big band, as well as a 9 to 11 piece funky-jazz ensemble called the JunkYard Horns.

The band Chris is bringing includes four of the top musicians in Nashville, with trombonist Roy Agee joining the leader in the front line, and a rhythm section of Joe Davidian on piano, Jerry Navarro on bass, and Marcus Finnie on drums.

There will be two sets beginning at 8:00 pm in the Jazz Cave at the Workshop. Admission is $20 / $10 high school and college students with ID. Tickets will go on sale Monday, June 29 at 10AM and will be available online, by phone 24/7 at Brown Paper Tickets (800-838-3006) or during business hours at the NJW office (242-5299).
