A comedy
New York City actor/comedian and Rogue Festival veteran Kurt Fitzpatrick is returning to the Tower District for two performances of his critically acclaimed solo play
The Last Straight Man In Theatre.
The show is a multimedia, multi-character comedy that involves a live Fitzpatrick portraying
a cast of characters on stage, while interacting with filmed versions of himself as even more
characters. Characters include Guardino, a male prostitute, Will, a rebellious teenage boy,and Mary, a preaching black waitress. The result is a strange, wild, and hilarious ride
through one weird night in a neighborhood of Kurt's imagination.
The show is directed by Alison Cousins.
The Last Straight Man in Theatre had a successful tour of Fringe Festivals and theaters in the Midwest in the summer of 2010, and in the fall enjoyed further success
during a ten-week run at Flushnik Studios in Brooklyn, playing every Saturday night. The Broken Leg performances will come immediately after a run at the Orlando Fringe Festival.
The show originally played in the Rogue Festival in 2010. At that time, it was named one of Fresno Bee's six recommended shows. In the Fresno Bee Review, Kathy Mahan wrote, "I walked away from the show encouraged by the unique storytelling and use of multimedia.
This show could not have been easy to put together -- combining the live acting with the video acting and making all feel as one. Fitzpatrick, who plays a series of male and female characters, is so energetic that the production never loses steam. "
The Fully Fringed review of Kurt's Ottawa performance stated, "It will make your fingertips buzz with the joy of the unknown. It's what theatre should be: challenging and exhilarating."
The show received a five-star review from Suite101.com. 25th Street Theatre critic Jason Dubray named the show the #1 Production of the 2009 Saskatoon Fringe Festival,
Outstanding Male Performer, Outstanding Solo Show, and Outstanding Multimedia Show.
It's playing at The Broken Leg Stage in the Tower District at 1470 N. Van Ness, Fresno, CA.
