A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Sierra Stages presents one of the funniest musical comedies of all time, "A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM", from July 14 through August 7 at the (air conditioned) Nevada Theatre, 401 Broad Street, Nevada City.

"FORUM" takes comedy back to its roots, combining situations from time-tested, 2000-year-old comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville. The result is a non-stop laugh-fest in which a crafty slave struggles to win the hand of a beautiful but slow-witted courtesan for his young master, in exchange for his freedom. With a book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, "FORUM" is light, fast-paced, witty, and irreverent.

The cast of 17 will be accompanied by a 15-piece orchestra.  The cast includes local actors, Trish Adair, Rik Augustine, Nancy Haffey, Dylan Hoy-Bianchi, John King, JR Lewis, Rebekah Martino, Jeffrey Mason, Toby Medlyn, Paul Micsan, Ken Miele, Sunny Ostrom, Emily Rice, Robert Rossman, Jordan Thomas-Rose, Rachel Wellman, Luna Wildy, and Ellie Wyman.

The director is Sandra Rockman and musical director is Ken Getz.  Set design is by Pamela Hodges, costume design is by Sharon Olson, and lighting design is by Erin Beatie.

Performances of "FORUM" are Thursdays at 7 PM, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 2 PM.  Advance tickets for Thursday performances are $20, and advance tickets for Friday, Saturday and Sunday performances are $25.  Tickets for the first two performances, on Thursday July 14 and Friday July 15, are $15.  Sierra Stages is also offering a special Two-Show Season Pass  including "FORUM" and the Tony-award winning musical comedy, "THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE" -- for only $35 for Thursday performances and $45 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday performances.  The Two-Show Season Pass and single tickets are available online at www.SierraStages.org or by calling the box office at (530) 346-3210.  Beginning June 1, single tickets also will be on sale at BriarPatch Coop and The Book Seller, in Grass Valley.  Group rates are also available  please call (530) 346-3210 for more information.
