The Circle
Inspired by Shakespeare's final play "The Tempest" and William Butler Yeats' prophetic and terrifying poem "The Second Coming", "The Circle" tells the story of a group of idealists who attempt to turn their back on the pain and suffering of the world only to discover that sometimes, the harder you try to keep something out, the more you end up letting it in.
ARTBARN is returning to Woodstock for the third summer to create another performance piece with a unique audience experience. Instead of filing into a theatre and taking a seat in the darkness, director Jess K Smith invites audiences to explore a series of environments created by critically acclaimed NYC designer Deb O, follow the riveting performances of Ross Cown, Elisa Matula, T Sahara Meer, and Rachael Richman, and even share in a meal between artists and audience curated by ARTBARN's chef, Kate Baker Linsley. Think of this as part theatre, part installation, part walking tour, and part meal.
{Please note: audiences attending the "The Circle" will move through a series of rooms and spaces at Byrdcliffe Arts Colony, many of which may not have chairs. Expect to stand, walk & move.}
About ARTBARN: ARTBARN is an artist collective committed to creating site-specific installation and performance events. The company gathers innovative artists from across disciplines and around the country together for a summer residency at the Byrdcliffe Art Colony. Their events create experiences that allow an audience to re-see a space, a story, a relationship, and themselves. http://artbarnfestival.com
