Purple Haze
Purple Haze, formerly known as The Ralph Woodson Experience, featuring dynamite guitarist Ralph Woodson returns to Arena Theater by popular demand "with the same great Hendrix tribute show, just a new name and a newer look", says Woodson. Singer and bass guitarist Ira Walker will open the show. Bay Area native Ralph Woodson- lead guitar, vocals- has studied his idol Jimi Hendrix to the point of being able to play the guitar behind his back and with his teeth. His first band, Togetherness, won a Battle of the Bands highlighted by a 12-string acoustic version of Jimi's Hear My Train A Comin, and went on to open for bands such as Sly and the Family Stone and Buddy Miles. Ralph then toured with Hedzoli Sounds as well as The Mighty Diamonds, Lady Bianca, Faye Carol, and a Bill Kreutzmann (Grateful Dead)/Sy Klopps (Herbie Herbert) collaboration called the Trichromes. With the Trichromes and later with the Sy Klopps Blues Band, Ralph played on big stages opening for Tower of Power, James Brown, ZZ Top, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, among others. Ralph formed the Ralph Woodson Experience in 2001 and renamed it Purple Haze in 2010. His focus is the Hendrix material that he grew up with and always loved. Ralph's showmanship and command of the Hendrix material is second to none and Purple Haze has gained a steady following in the Bay Area knocking people out wherever they go. The lineup includes Pete Roberts bass, backing vocal- and Dan Cueva drums, percussion. Pete's solid bass playing is "the heartbeat of the band", comments Ralph, "Dan brings his diverse swatch of music styles to every project he's involved in." Soul and roots musician Ira Walker presents a unique combination of Blues, Rock, & Southern Soul. Recently nominated for a Grammy as a producer, singer/songwriter Ira Walker has performed with a star studded list of music icons from Steve Miller, Eddie Money, Carlos Santana, Brian May, & Joe Satriani. After touring Europe with Keb' Mo in 2000, Ira supplied vocals and bass guitar when he recorded with the Trichromes featuring Neal Schon (Journey), Bill Kreutzmann (Grateful Dead), and legendary lyricist Robert Hunter in 2002. Ira co-wrote the pop hit "I Wanna Go Back" for Eddie Money and has worked on records that include Travis Tritt, Randy Travis, Lee Ann Womack, Patti Loveless, Steve Earle, David Lee Murphy, Lenny Williams (Tower of Power), Greg Rollie, & Tommy Castro. Ira Walker will soon be releasing his much awaited Solo CD Mojo Tree.
