We're pleased to announce that Rabbi Shefa Gold will lead Metivta's annual Elul Retreat August 21-23 at Holy Spirit Retreat Center in Encino.
As we ready ourselves for Elul and the coming of the New Year, we will attune to the energies that strengthen and deepen our capacity to do the true work of Teshuvah through the practice of chant, meditation, movement/energy work and self-reflection.
The Babylonian name of the month has been thought of as an acronym for Ani L'dodi V'dodi Li (I am my Beloved's and my Beloved is mine) which is a line from Shir HaShirim (The Song of Songs). As we prepare ourselves for the High Holy Days we spend the month of Elul repairing the very foundation of our connection to the Great Mystery.
On Tishab'Av we experience a necessary shattering of that relationship and then spend the next 7 weeks returning, re-creating ourselves, and finally re-encountering that Mystery during the High Holy Days.
What is the journey from devastation to renewal?
The Shattering of Tishab'Av is also marked by the seeding of a profoundly hopeful vision- the birth of the Messiah or of Messianic consciousness. How do we water that seed? How do we nurture the seedling and honor its growth?
We are guided and inspired through this journey by 7 amazing texts- the haftorot of consolation, readings from Isaiah that show us the pathway from desolation to comfort, from utter destruction to dazzling hope.
As in all Metivta retreats, we will convene as a loving and respectful spiritual community. Silence will be observed for most of the retreat to create the atmosphere of stillness best suited for the contemplative practices in which we'll engage.
The fee for the retreat is $375 for single occupancy and $275 for double occupancy. The fee includes room, all meals, and retreat costs. There is a vegetarian option.
*Financial aid is available. Contact lyle@metivta.org
The retreat will begin on Friday August 21 at 3pm and will conclude at noon on Sunday August 23rd.
Please register now as space is limited. We expect a full retreat.
For questions, please contact Lyle@Metivta.org or call 424 652-7070.
Join us this August. B'Shalom The Metivta Retreat Team
