The Taming of the Shrew / with The Tamer Tamed
"The Taming of the Shrew/The Tamer Tamed" is an abridged pairing of Shakespeare's controversial "Taming of the Shrew," in which women surrender to the dominance of their husbands, and "The Tamer Tamed," a sequel written by John Fletcher not long after Shakespeare's tale in which the women succeed in turning the tables on the men. You don't have to understand Shakespeare to understand much of the humor, insults, and taunting that goes on. Fridays and Saturdays, your ticket guarantees you the warmth and soft seats (and munchies and bar) of the Jewel Box, but on Sundays, the performances will take place in the Austin/Kvelstad Pavilion at Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park on the Poulsbo waterfrontrain or shine. The Sunday performances do not require reservations, but donations will be accepted. It is suggested you don't argue with the Shrew when she passes the hat!
Directed by Gwen Adams, the show runs weekends July 17 through August 2. Tickets for Friday and Saturday evening performances are $16 for adults and $14 for seniors/students/military. Sunday performances in the park are FREE (no ticket/reservation required).
The theater is located at 225 Iverson St. in Poulsbo. More information at jewelboxpoulsbo.org or (360)697-3183.
