Science: Buddy Ratner: Advances in Regeneration
Plastic and metal "replacement parts" - artificial hips, hearts, or corneas might seem high-tech, but an even bigger medical-technology revolution is underway: directing the body to regenerate and repair itself. And UW Bioengineering Professor Buddy Ratner is on the cutting edge. Discussing past reconstructive approaches; modern biomaterials devices; tissue engineering; and the UW's efforts in heart-muscle repair, eye therapies, and bone regeneration, Ratner looks to the future, where new materials will change the way medicine is practiced and aging is approached. Presented as part of Seattle Science Lectures, with Pacific Science Center. Series sponsored by Microsoft. Series media sponsorship provided by KPLU.
