Coop de Tour #5
Slow Food Spokane River keeps the DIY energy high with our fifth annual Coop de Tour, (chicken coop tour). Backyard chicken owners across the nation are restoring heritage breeds and reviving the tradition of local and sustainable agriculture on a micro scale three hens at a time! You can make a difference and enjoy farm-fresh eggs!
Join the Slow Food Spokane River group and visit some of Spokane's Audubon / Garland area coops. We'll have 2-3 stops at people's homes where you can check out a variety of coop structures and the hens. Some have just started this year, so they will have fresh advice on getting going. The final stop has had chickens for years, so can talk about a whole range of topics, including care and feeding of chickens 101, coop design and safety, wintering the birds, laws governing town chickens, and predator control.
We'll meet on the West side of Audubon Park, between Gordon & Kiernan Sts. and set up carpools. When it's all said and done, we'll enjoy an eggciting egg- stravaganza potluck lunch, socialize and answer any remaining questions at our final stop.
Pre-registration is necessary as the tour sells out quickly. All registered participants will receive more directions via e-mail prior to the tour. We'll have a map of final locations at check-in. FUN CHICKEN GIVEAWAYS at the potluck!
Note: Tickets are per person, except for children under 10.
