Seahurst Saturdays
July 4th, July 18th, & August 15th: Guided Nature Walks

Enjoy a guided walk through Seahurst Park! Learn to identify local plants,  listen to bird calls, & walk the trails with an ESC naturalist. Discover the wonders of the forest in "the gem" of the Burien Park's system.

July 11th: Seaweed Pressing

Time to get artistic with the beautiful wonders we call seaweed! We will explore the different species of seaweed found throughout Puget Sound, and learn how to press them to enjoy for years to come.

JULY 25th: "All Hail Plankton!"                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      

Learn about the incredible organisms that make up the base of the food web and produce about half of the oxygen we breathe! We will collect a plankton sample at Seahurst Beach, do live plankton viewing, and identification with a microscope video system.

August 1st: Map and Compass Skills

Learn the basics of compass reading, compass units, and declination adjustments. Plus you will explore topography maps, and learn how to orient a map for triangulations. *Participants must be at least 12 years of age, and are encouraged to bring their own compass.

AUGUST 8th: Ocean Acidification

Ocean acidification represents one of the greatest, and growing, challenges to the marine environment and its ecosystems. Learn about the nature of OA, its causes, and the changes that are needed to successfully address this problem.

NEW DATE! AUGUST 23rd: Amazing Insects

Learn the incredible adaptations insects have for survival! Explore how these organisms serve important roles in the food chain, and how human survival is innately tied to theirs.

AUGUST 29th: Nature Photography

Anybody can learn to take great nature photographs, and you don't need a high-end camera! Seahurst Park provides a terrific setting where you will learn the basics of creating a successful and stunning image. *Participants must be at least  12 years of age, and are encouraged to bring their own photographic device.  This class will take place outside so please dress accordingly.

Children under 5 are free (Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult)
