Comedian Tom Cotter
With a burst of energy Tom Cotter has taken the comedy scene by storm. His wise guy brand of humor and rapid fire delivery never miss a beat. It is obvious Tom feels most comfortable on stage. Watching him perform one would think that the stage was his home and the audience was his family. Of the audience, Cotter says, "I feel as if I should be paying them." The youngest of six children, Tom has always used his penchant for humor to stand out. He readily admits, "I needed the spotlight on me because that was the only way I could get attention." This would prove to be the first step in his comedy career.

After graduating Dennison University in 1986, Tom entertained the notion of going to law school, but his true love was comedy. Although he held various jobs including work as a private investigator, "the problem is my red Ferrari was a white Volkswagen and the damsels in distress were guys named Nick and Tony" his thirst to perform had to be quenched. In 1988, armed with a drive to succeed and an eye on the future, Tom packed his bags and headed to Boston. It was not long before he became a regular in the Boston Comedy clubs. Audiences could not get enough of this young talent. Club owners asked him back time and time again. Tom was thrilled for the opportunity to develop his comedic gift.

In 1994 fueled by his success in the Boston area, Tom entered Seattle's International Stand-Up Comedy Competition. With critics raving about his performance, he went on to win by the largest margin in the history of the competition. Shortly after winning the competition, Tom was offered the headlining spot for the Reebok Campus America Tour. His connection with the audience made him a mega hit at colleges all over the country. Tom continues to enjoy his success with the college audiences and is one of the most requested comedians at the NACA conventions.

In 1995 Tom moved to New York to pursue new goals. He has since earned the right to play in some of America's most famous comedy clubs including, The Improv, Catch a Rising Star, and Caroline's just to name a few. His television credits include "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn," "New Joke City with host Robert Klein," "The Ru Paul Show," A&E's "An Evening at the Improv," as well as Comedy Central's "2-Drink Minimum," "Short Attention Span Theatre," and "Stand-Up, Stand-Up." Tom has also become a regular at the Gotham Comedy club in NYC much to the delight of his fans.

Versatility has allowed Tom to excel in many areas of show business. His voice has become a familiar staple in commercial voice-overs for many high profile clients including NBC, MTV, Pepsi, McDonald's, Chevrolet, and Converse. Tom's obvious enthusiasm for this kind of work has made him a popular choice for advertisers.

Additionally, Tom has worked in film, theatre, and television productions and is currently working on an idea for a book. All of this is just the tip of the iceberg for Cotter. Currently taking acting lessons, he has shown considerable promise. Tom has appeared on television's "Unsolved Mysteries" and on the big screen in "Next Stop Wonderland" while continuing to thrill his audiences at comedy clubs. In 2003, Tom taped his own half hour special for Comedy Central which will air in early 2004. He also won the National Laugh Across America Contest in the comedy club category at the 2nd Annual Las Vegas Comedy Festival.

Whether it be comedy, voice-overs, or acting Tom Cotter gives it everything he's got comedy will always be his first love. "If laughter is the best medicine, I yearn to be drugged."
