Secret Country
Sponsored by Easy Street Records
Close your eyes and imagine a long ago world, where Nudie Suit clad legends stormed stages at county fairs and longhaired outlaws lounged beneath live oak trees in Luckenbach, Texas. The cares and the woes of the modern day will melt away when you slip into this world of Northwest Film Forum's summertime Secret Country Seriesa place where hot live music, cheap frosty beers and vintage celluloid celebrations of country music converge to take you back to a shimmering and soulful place and time.
Each evening includes a secret country feature film and live performances by some of the Northwest's most talented and twanging musicians.
Thursday, June 30 @ 7 PM David Keenan, fiddle player and guitarist extraordinaire, and Nova Devonie, Seattle's best accordionist, open up the series with the songs of Buck Owens, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams. Tonight's film features Porter Wagoner, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Charley Pride and too many other country stars to mention.
Thursday, July 28 @ 7 PM Ian Moore, the Texas guitar-god turned Northwest music legend, will sing his own haunting songs and those of the Louvin Brothers to open this show. The film that follows features Merle Haggard, Johhny Cash, George Jones or Waylon Jenningshow could we go wrong with any of those choices?
Thursday, August 25 @ 7 PM Acclaimed Seattle film composer Jason Staczek will tickle the ivories in the style of Hargus "Pig" Robbins while singer songwriter Garth Reeves (Dangermouse, Nubbin, Goodness and Blue Spark) lays down some soulful backwoods sounds. Tonight's film features a certain redheaded stranger.
