DAVE ALVIN ANNOUNCES SUMMER TOUR, BLASTERS REUNION AND RECEIVES PARDON IN CALIFORNIA NEW STUDIO ALBUM "ELEVEN ELEVEN" TO BE RELEASED JUNE 21 ON YEP ROC RECORDS
Los Angeles, CA - April 13, 2011
The "King of California" Dave Alvin and his band "The Guilty Ones" have announced their U.S. summer tour in support of the new studio album "Eleven Eleven" to be released by Yep Roc Records on June 21. The tour, officially kicking off June 11th, will take Alvin and his band to theatres, clubs and venues coast-to-coast with stops at several music festivals throughout June, July, August and September, additional dates will be announced. Recently debuting the new track "Harlan County Line" on an episode of FX's critically-acclaimed show Justified, view a video of the band performing the song live at the SXSW music festival on Music Fog, the Americana music show.
On May 22, Alvin will reunite with The Original Blasters for one-night-only, performing at the Doheny Blues Festival. Formed in 1979 in Downey, California, alongside brother Phil Alvin, The Blasters pioneered a new musical movement blending elements of the blues, rockabilly, punk and R&B creating their self-described "American Music." Notorious for their legendary, energetic live shows, in 1982 the group was officially banned from performing in the city of Davis, California following a particularly raucous concert. Recently, on April 5th, Davis Mayor Joe Krovoza presented Alvin with a formal proclamation pardoning the band and inviting them to once again play in the city. Read all about it at the Los Angeles Times music blog Pop & Hiss.
Alvin's new studio album "Eleven Eleven" has been described as his most driving, electric blues and rock oriented album since 2004's critically acclaimed Ashgrove. The set includes 11-tracks, featuring a host musicians Alvin had not recorded with since his days in The Blasters, the result is an album with songs rich in vivid stories, stretching from R&B royalty to labor history to Harlan County in Kentucky, with Dave's guitar work punctuating each tale, reinforcing moments of urgency, remorse and reflection.
A fourth generation Californian, Dave Alvin, Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and self-described "barroom guitarist," is widely considered to be one of the pivotal founders of the current Americana music scene. Combining elements of blues, folk, R+B, rockabilly, Bakersfield country and garage rock and roll with lyrical inspiration from local writers and poets like Raymond Chandler, Gerald Locklin and Charles Bukowski, Alvin has mixed his varied musical and literary influences into his own unique, updated version of traditional American music. "My songs are just like California," says Alvin. "A big, messy melting pot."
