The Silent Comedy and Howlin' Woods in Concert
Howlin' Woods, a 4-piece band from Santa Barbara, combines elements of classic rock, folk, soul, and R & B, with a dash of funk, trip-hop, and trance thrown in for good measure. Blending soulful melodic vocals, shredding lead guitar, and a driving rhythm section, HW has been performing steadily in the Santa Barbara area since 2009. Their May 13, 2011, stop on their tour is part of their Kickstarter project, which will help fund the mixing, mastering, packaging, and distribution of their debut studio album. In addition to supporting Howlin' Woods, a portion of the proceeds from this show will go toward the purchase of a new dance floor in the Osborn/Woods Hall (formerly the Great Hall).
While the HW live experience consists mostly of originals compositions melded with improvisation, they are not ashamed to pay tribute to some of their greatest influences with cover songs ranging from Nick Drake to DJ Shadow, Grateful Dead to Talking Heads, Nina Simone to Pink Floyd, Otis Redding to Black Sabbath, etc. to etc.
All members have been playing music together since 2002, jamming in various forms with friends and fellow musicians. In early 2009, brothers Jordan and Griffin Chetakian introduced songs they had written to drummer, Matthew Farrington and bassist, Brian Chandler. They instantly knew that they had found a sound and vibration that felt just right. HW has crafted a sound all their own, collectively composing over 30 songs in just over a year and continuing to create each time they enter their studio. HW has had the pleasure to the share the stage with acclaimed acts such as The Devil Makes Three, Hot Buttered Rum, Alberta Cross and Graham Rabbit.

PRESS QUOTES "Creating a musical bond for more than three years, these four musicians have been influenced by a wide range of artists. Folk and Blues inspired vocal melodies, arranged along side a hard hitting rhythm section, that can jam for hours. When you foget where you started, and the goal has grown into a mysterious entity of it's own, categories and labels have no place. All locals of Santa Barbara, this band performs at venues all over the Tri-county area, and they continue to create and spread their original sound through their love of music." Stateside Magazine
"This group's mix of blues-rock and soulful vocals shines through on tracks like "Students of Life," a seven-minute ballad where frontman Jordan Chetakian's soothing voice mixes with earnest, folksy arrangements." Santa Barbara Independent
