DCTV Presents The Creative Process: Music and the Documentary
Moving film scores are not exclusive to dramatic narratives and lush period pieces. They play just as vital a role in documentary.
Award-winning composer Gary Pozner will lead this new and exciting DCTV master class, exploring the role of music in non-fiction film and television.
We'll take an inside look into the craft of a composer, including the challenges they face and the tools that they need. Reviewing film clips and score cues, as well as examining the thought process and inspiration behind the work, attendees will receive a unique perspective on how music for documentary is fully realized.
This master class is open to all film goers and music lovers alike!
Award-winning composer Gary Pozner has created original scores for numerous films, including Enemies of War, Gotti, The Quest for King Arthur, The Revolution, Napoleon's Final Battle, Tumaini Letu, and The History Channel's highly acclaimed epic documentary, Russia: Land of the Tsars, nominated for a 2004 Emmy award. His original music has also been heard in many television programs on networks including HBO, Cinemax, Fox, Court TV, National Geographic Channel, PBS, Lifetime, ESPN and the History Channel.
In addition to his work in television and film, Gary composed the original score for a live musical based on Jules Verne's classic book, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Nautilus was commissioned by Walden Media and premiered at Walden Family Playhouse in Denver.
Prior to becoming a film composer, Gary was in several rock bands, including Tom Tom Club (with former Talking Heads members Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth), and EO, an African/Celtic/gospel/rock band signed by Arista. Each year, he teaches music classes at PND, an organization committed to integrating various socio-economic groups in Portugal.
