Alameda Japanese Mothers to Host Mini-Japanese Festival to Aid Japan Disaster R
Alameda Japanese Mothers are hosting a mini-Japanese festival for the entire family on Thursday, May 26 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. All money raised will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society via the Consulate-General of Japan in San Francisco. Entertainment will include traditional Japanese Bon dancing and taiko drumming. Guests can also help in the creation of one thousand origami cranes to be sent to Japan. Dinner is included with your donation and can be enjoyed by the entire family. Additionally, there will be a full-bar and mini-silent auction that includes artwork from local artists.
Alameda Japanese Mothers have already donated over $8,000.00 to Japan thanks to the wonderful support of the people of Alameda. While the tsunami and earthquake are no longer headlining the daily news, the losses for the victims were tremendous. It will take years for people to rebuild their homes, livelihoods, and communities. Ongoing support is crucial and will continue to be greatly appreciated. Alameda Japanese Mothers will also continue accepting donations at the Alameda Farmers Market at Taylor and Webster Streets until the end of April. Please look for our table each Tuesday and Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, excluding rainy days.
