Don't be fooled while the antique presses inside Woodside Press look old, they still come alive to produce colorful, whimsical designs.
After touring the facility, letterpress printer and bookbinder Davin Kuntze will teach you how to set type, mix ink colors, and print five of your own small posters. Then, you can trade posters with other participants before taking home a colorful portfolio. Tour Letterpress History Davin takes you through Woodside Press and shows you its historical, letterpress-related equipment Customize Your Letterpress Create a design with different wood type, clip art, and cast metal type
Color and Print Davin covers the basics of mixing custom ink colors, before everyone prints their designs Take the Lesson Home Each person prints five copies of one small poster Just a few words can transport Davin Kuntze back to his childhood:72-point Lutetia Caps. That was the first metal type (casted by his father) that Davin ever set and printed. Even though he was just seven years old, Davin was hooked, and he eventually went on to get a degree in graphic design and a masters in book arts. He's worked as a professional letterpress printer and bookbinder ever since, picking up ample media attention along the way.
