Alley Repertory Theater Presents: THE FARNSWORTH INVENTION by Aaron Sorkin
THE FARNSWORTH INVENTION by Aaron Sorkin" a play that chronicles the development of one of the most influential inventions of all time: the television.
ABOUT THE PLAY From Aaron Sorkin, creator of The West Wing and A Few Good Men, comes Alley Repertory Theaterâs new Mainstage production â" THE FARNSWORTH INVENTION â" a fast-paced and vigorous play about two ambitious visionaries from the 1920âs. Philo T. Farnsworth is an Idaho farm boy and self-taught scientific genius who, at 11 years of age, already had a clear mental concept of what it would take to create a television, and David Sarnoff is a highly motivated Russian immigrant-turned media mogul who becomes head of RCA and forever changes the world of radio. Throughout the play, both race against each other to create the most transformative invention of the twentieth century. Separated by thousands of miles, each knows that if he stops working, even for a moment, the other will gain the edge. The story sizzles with corporate espionage, family tragedy, financial disaster, and the thrill of discovery on the road to one of the greatest inventions of all time: the television.
