Jeff Hood @The Well
The Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood is a theologian, historian, and bioethicist by academic training, He is a graduate of Auburn University, the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Emory University's Candler School of Theology, the University of Alabama, Creighton University and recently completed a Doctorate of Ministry in Queer Theology at Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University. His ordination rests within the Southern Baptist Convention. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, he lives and works in Denton, Texas, where he serves as Minister of Social Justice for Hope for Peace and Justice, Executive Director of Center for Theological Activism and as a pastor to persons in communities throughout the region. As a theological activist and organizer, he serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, the National Council of the Fellowship of Reconciliation USA, the Statewide Steering Committee of Pastors for Texas Children and the Board of Directors of Hope for Peace and Justice. In 2013, my work as a spiritual organizer and activist was recognized by PFLAG Fort Worth's Equality Award. He is married to Emily and they have three young sons, twin toddlers, Jeff and Phillip, and newborn, Quinley. He also maintains a close friendship to Texas Death Row prisoner Will Speer. He is the author of six books, The Queer: An Interaction with The Gospel of John, The Queering of an American Evangelical, The Sociopathic Jesus, The Year of the Queer, Jesus on Death Row and Frances. He says, "I believe that God is calling us to something queerer."
