The Howard Fishman Quintet
Using Greil Marcus' book THE OLD, WEIRD AMERICA as a touchstone, THE BASEMENT TAPES PROJECT explores the mysterious underground recordings made by Bob Dylan and The Band in 1967.  The project has been programmed to wide acclaim at a major national venues, including Lincoln Center's "American Songbook" series, the Steppenwolf Theatre's "Traffic Jam"; and at The Flynn Center in Burlington, VT.

"I've produced over 100 concerts over the past dozen years. Howard Fishman's Basement Tapes Project show was  hands down  one of  the greatest single performances I've hosted at my venue. In fact, it was one of the greatest performances I've seen in my life." - Carter Smith, Common Ground Concerts

"Beautiful and ethereal in a timeless way." Brett Sigurdson, Burlington Writers' Workshop

Critically-acclaimed NYC singer, guitarist, composer and bandleader Howard Fishman's exuberant, spontaneous, and unvarnished music has made him a critically-acclaimed favorite of audiences worldwide. Fishman filters a deep passion for New Orleans jazz, Brooklyn soul, open-hearted country, blues and gospel music through a completely original, experimental aesthetic. The New York Times has written that his music "transcends time and idiom."

A testament to his wide-ranging appeal, Fishman has appeared on bills with such diverse artists as: Andrew Bird, Odetta, Yo Yo Ma, Maceo Parker, Califone, Robyn Hitchcock, Madeleine Peyroux, Allen Holdsworth and Nellie McKay.

Fishman is a frequent NPR guest, and has made feature-length appearances on "Fresh Air" with Terry Gross, "World Cafe" with David Dye, and "Soundcheck" with John Schaefer, among many others.

In the spirit of collaboration and solidarity for downtown Saratoga arts and entertainment, UPH will partner with long established musical institution Caffè Lena for 2 of the performances in the UPH's second annual LIVE! Music Series: the series opener in July with David Amram joined by the Dylan Perrillo Orchestra held at UPH, and the series close with The Howard Fishman Quintet performing the 'Basement Tapes Project,' a two night event held at Caffè Lena on October 2nd and 3rd, 2015.
