BNY Mellon Presents: Amanda Van Story Lewis in Concert, An Emerging Artist Showcase
This past January, the ACFL&MH was enthralled with a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article highlighting budding opera singer Amanda Van Story Lewis.
Aspiring artist by night and singing receptionist for Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto by day, Amanda is no stranger to the spotlight.
Lewis, 33,is a classically trained singer born in Washington, DC with a Bachelor's and Masters in Classical Voice Performance from Howard University. There she received instruction from Dr. James Moore and Dr. J.W. Norris. During that time, she also studied at the Academia D'ell Arte in Arezzo, Italy where she focused on opera and physical theater; and she trained with Francesca Francalanci of Florence, Italy, culminating in a solo concert.
Amanda has been fortunate to perform as a featured soloist for such prestigious events as: the 10th Anniversary of the African American Civil War Memorial in Washington DC, the Congressional Black Caucus's Black Women's Agenda in 2008, and the National Walk for Epilepsy 2010 where she sang the National Anthem.
Amanda is an accomplished pageant winner, having served as Miss Black District of Columbia USA 2008, and Miss District of Columbia International 2009. Ms. Van Story Lewis moved to Pittsburgh and in 2010 received a fellowship from the August Wilson Center for African American Culture. She is currently being mentored by retired professional opera singer, Ross Dacal.
This September she will make her "Carnegie Carnegie" Hall debut with traditional pieces from Mozart, Schubert and Debussy--as well as two spiritual selections.
