Movers and Shakers
Directed by Deborah Stein @Mandell Weiss Forum February 13-21, 2016
MOVERS + SHAKERS is the story of Congressman Darren Finn and his hard-working campaign staff as they clash and mate with the local community during a routine trip to the middle of the Middle West. Over the course of 24 hours, everyone will self-destruct and reconstruct, hopping across beds and political parties, letting loose their inner animals. This new play uses song and farce to explore the virtual mating habits of our 21st Century political elite, inspired by Anthony Weiner's problems with texting and Sarah Palin's aggressively unapologetic retrograde femininity. The artists are interested in sex, power, hubris; really smart people doing foolish things; the intersection of power and hotness. The play looks at how technology has melted borders between good behavior and bad, and how that same technology has encouraged exhibitionism in our most private behaviors. Created by Stein | Holum Projects in collaboration with UC San Diego MFA students in the Dept. of Theatre & Dance.
