TJBS Presents "Sessions at Steinway" w/ Denis Solee
The Tennessee Jazz Blues Society and Steinway Piano Gallery of Nashville announce the next installment of the new interview/performance series, Sessions at Steinway. The event takes place Saturday, July 11, 1:30 pm at the Steinway Piano Gallery of Nashville and features saxophonist Denis Solee.
The new series combines interview and performance, featuring guest hosts and artists whose work enriches Music City's jazz and blues scenes.
Sessions at Steinway is modeled after the award-winning series Inside the Actor's Studio, and was conceived by saxophonist and TJBS Vice-President, Rahsaan Barber. It offers audiences the rare chance to hear unique and personal accounts of life both on and away from the stage. The "sessions" will include short performances and a Q&A segment for audience interaction.
The next performance in the series will take place Saturday, July 11 at 1:30 pm at the Steinway Piano Gallery, 4285 Sidco Drive, Nashville, TN 37204.
The guest artist will be saxophonist Denis Solee. Denis has been a major force on the Nashville music scene for over 40 years. He has performed and recorded virtually every type of music in groups of all types, from small groups to big bands to symphony orchestras. A skilled arranger as well as player of virtually all reed instruments, Denis has had a busy professional career and has worked with artists as diverse as Ray Stevens, Ray Charles, Mel Tillis, Mel Torme; Louis Bellson, Sammy Davis, Jr., Sarah Vaughn, Amy Grant, Liberace, and Aretha Franklin.
Though he plays many genres of music, Denis's first love is jazz. He has been a close collaborator with pianist Beegie Adair for almost as long as he has been in Nashville. The two formed the Adair-Solee Quartet in 1982, and with the addition of another longtime collaborator, George Tidwell, this became the Part-Time Big-Time Be-bop Co-op, perhaps the most visible jazz group of the day.
Denis has recorded four albums under his own name and countless others as a sideman. Pick virtually any of the town's top big bands of the past 30 years, from the Nashville Jazz Machine to the Nashville Jazz Orchestra to the Duffy Jackson and Tyler Mire Big Bands, and you're likely to find Denis as a member. Denis has taught and arranged ensembles at the Nashville Jazz Workshop since the beginning of that organization.
Tickets will be $10 for TJBS members and $15 for non-members. Student tickets are $10. Tickets will be available at the door and online.
