Terry Hsieh Plays the music of Motown and More
Terry Hsieh is a trombonist, composer and bandleader hailing from Chapel Hill, NC who currently lives and works in Beijing, China. He graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory with a BA in Chinese and a BM in Jazz performance, where he primarily studied with Robin Eubanks, but also under the tutelage of Billy Hart, Dan Wall, Sean Jones and Marcus Belgrave, Gary Bartz and many others. Hsieh is the founder and bandleader of the Terry Hsieh Collective. He has shared the stage with such luminaries as Terence Blanchard, Maria Schneider, Jen Shyu, Vincent Gardner, Jason Marsalis, Jaleel Shaw, Linda Oh, Stevie Wonder and Robin Eubanks. His debut album "Multiplicity", released independently, has been acclaimed as "a rocket ship". He brings his arrangements of the music of Detroit's heyday to Sharp Nine, with a modern jazz twist, featuring Kenny Phelps-Mckeown on bass, Larry Q Draughn on drums, and Russell Favret on guitar.
