Despite accounting for 47% of the total workforce, women make up only 26% of computer and math occupations today. Women of color are even more underrepresented with African-American women filling only 3% computing jobs and Hispanic/Latina women only 2%. Per Scholas initiated Women in Tech to address this industry gap and because we recognized the urgent need to engage larger numbers of women, especially from communities of color, in IT careers.
Per Scholas is dedicated to increasing the representation of women particularly women of color entering the IT sector in NYC and nationwide. Our IT training will inspire, train and support at least 200 women in NYC to become IT professionals each year for a total 1000 WOMEN training and working in the IT sector over five years.
