Andrew Himes: The Roots of Fundamentalism in an American Family
On a mission to understand the historical and religious roots of Christian fundamentalismâ"and how his own life fit into that storyâ"Seattle writer Andrew Himes looked to his family: He is the son, grandson, great-grandson, brother, nephew, and cousin of Baptist preachers, and his grandfather, John R. Rice, served as the dean of American fundamentalists for decades until his death in 1980. Through his family's story, Himes, author of The Sword of the Lord, suggests that a new generation is moving beyond the categorical and time-bound thinking of 20th-century fundamentalism. Joining Himes in conversation and/or song are local religious leaders and the Total Experience Gospel Choir. Presented by Town Hall.
