Corin Raymond & Cowin Fox - In the Round
On July 12th Corin Raymond & Corwin Fox will be joining forces In the Round at the historic Wise Hall with special guest Lindsay Robertson.
Corin Raymond is a singer/songwriter in the style of Johnny Cash who often draws comparisons to John Prine. His songs are very Canadian, slightly apocalyptic, and suggest criminal activity. Judges quote his lyrics when handing sentences down. Truckers cry. Corin will be telling songs and singing stories at the Wise Hall for the first time on July 12th, and then returning to Vancouver in September, when he brings his newest one-man show, The Great Canadian Tire Money Caper, to the Vancouver Fringe.
"Corin Raymond is a storyteller who by the end of the night you'll have known your whole life." - The Globe and Mail
"Raymond has impeccable timing, and his performance is at once intimate, openhearted, and evangelical." - The Georgia Straight
"Corin's magic appeal comes from a unique blend of vulnerability with a high energy personality. It's something you see sometimes in comedians, but rarely in musicians." - The Basement Rug
Corwin Fox is a Canadian songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist who has been hailed as "a shining light in Canadian roots music" by Doug Cox (artistic director, Vancouver Island Music Festival). Known as much for his studio expertise as his live show, Corwin has toured extensively across Canada, the U.S. and Australia performing his songs on banjo, guitar and ukelele. He has played venues and festivals large and small, some by himself, some with his band Morlove, and some with such luminaries as Fred Penner, Shane Koyczan and the Short Story Long, Alex Cuba, Kim Barlow and Raghu Lokanathan. Corwin also has a new duo with Raghu called The Chimney Swallows.
Checking into the crowded Canadian singer songwriter scene, Lindsay Robertson has unpacked her first solo record : Gypsy Hotel. Tracking the muse from her roots in Guelph Ontario to her home in Vancouver BC, Gypsy Hotel plays out like a confession from a gal who isn't so sure she did wrong. There is no cast of special guest players, she does not hail from rock royalty. Lindsay offers only a stripped down bedroom sound. Packing no more than guitar and voice, her sultry songs explore territory mapped out by influences like Tom Waits and Besse Smith. You'll find her down the hall from fellow tale tellers Martin Tielli and Martha Wainwright.
