The Red Line Tap Barn Dance
$7 Advance / $10 at the Door
Featuring Caller Jo Morland Jo Mortland of the Chicago Barn Dance Company is a long time, hard core contra dancer, and a dance caller since 2000. Her style includes clear instruction, fun dances that flow well, and a challenge if the time is right!
And music from Can I Get An Amen Dan and Evan met at the chicago school of violin making and got together to bust out some fiddle tunes and it was all downhill from there. The two along with Jeff Yonkus took to the streets of Chicago with a simple agenda: play music, drink whiskey, and have fun. They succeeded in their task with the help of that insanely cheap Wild Irish Rose... or bum wine if you will.
From then on, the boys got better and better. The once simply-structured and straight-forward dance tunes took on a new structure, lyrically developed and musically complex, suitable for both the lone listener at home with a pipe as well as a room full of lightning-blooded dancers.
2010 saw the addition of john lane, with his grubby little hands fiddling in the cookie jars of any genre from noise rock to the most progressive of jazzes as well as the high-fallutin music of theory based genres. Also in the quest of audio domination Chanel Miller was enlisted for her rowdy and charismatic charms and the sheer volume of her sweet and sour vocals. This new incarnation of Can I Get an Amen plans on continuing the tradition while doing the most traditional thing with music: whatever sounds fuckin boss, and forcing this music down the un-gagging and generally accepting throats of their communal peers.
