In this gritty urban drama, war veteran Richard Didier (Glenn Ford) wants to begin his career as a teacher and is given an assignment at a boys high school in inner-city New York. However, he soon discovers the school is overrun by delinquents who steal, destroy property, refuse to respect authority, and threaten the female teachers with rape. While most of the faculty have given up and let the delinquents do what they want, Didier is determined to bring order back to his classroom, even after thugs threaten his pregnant wife. The first major studio film to use rock music on the soundtrack, Blackboard Jungle helped to spark the rock & roll boom of the 1950s. The book Glenn Ford: A Life chronicles the volatile life, relationships, and career of the renowned actor, beginning with his move from Canada to California and his initial discovery of theater. It follows Ford's career from film to television to radio and shows how Ford shifted effortlessly between dramas, noir, westerns, and romances. This biography by Glenn Ford's son, Peter Ford, includes exclusive interviews with family, friends, and professional associates, and snippets from the Ford family collection of diaries, audiotapes, unpublished interviews, and rare candid photos. The result is an authentic Hollywood story that isn't afraid to reveal the truth.
Peter Ford will be interviewed by film scholar Foster Hirsch
