NYCGMC presents A Concert for Tyler
The New York City Gay Men's Chorus performs A CONCERT FOR TYLER in Ridgewood, NJ on Saturday, June 27th at 7:30pm.
Location: West Side Presbyterian Church 6 South Monroe Street Ridgewood, NJ 07450-3522
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students.
In 2010, Rutgers freshman and Ridgewood native Tyler Clementi's roommate web-cammed him in a gay sexual encounter and posted about it online. Days later, Tyler committed suicide and the issue of cyberbullying was brought to national and international attention. "TYLER'S SUITE" uses music to tell Tyler's story and offers a message of hope and compassion.
The concert also features a mix of standards and contemporary music to celebrate pride.
This performance marks the completion of a journey for "TYLER'S SUITE," which was commissioned by a group of seven of the leading gay men's choruses across the country. Starting with the world premiere by San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus in 2014, "TYLER'S SUITE" has been performed around the country by the six other co-commissioning choruses, including Windy City Gay Chorus in Chicago, Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles, San Diego Gay Men's Chorus, Turtle Creek Chorale in Dallas, Texas, and the Seattle Men's Chorus. "TYLER'S SUITE" now completes its cycle of performances with this performance in Tyler's hometown of Ridgewood.
"TYLER'S SUITE" features new music from composers Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin); John Bucchino (A Catered Affair); Ann Hampton Callaway (Swing!); Craig Carnelia (Sweet Smell of Success); John Corigliano (Academy Award winner for The Red Violin); Nolan Gasser; and Jake Heggie (Dead Man Walking); and lyricists Lance Horne and Pamela Stewart.
