Trolley Dances 2015: Catch the Rapids
September 26 - 27 & October 3 - 4
San Diego Dance Theater and the Metropolitan Transit System present
17th Annual Trolley Dances
Over the past 17 years of presenting TROLLEY DANCES Artistic Director Jean Isaacs has choreographed work in a fountain, a board room, a supermarket, a library and in a children's museum but never in Balboa Park! For this year's Annual TROLLEY DANCES, tours will travel from downtown to Balboa Park in celebration of Centennial with lots of surprises in between. A stellar team of choreographers are on board to create new work that is sure to delight and engage.
Isaacs, Trolley Dances founder, is thrilled to welcome award winning director/choreographer/media artist Stephan Koplowitz as a first-time Trolley Dance choreographer. Internationally known for his work on the concert stage and for creating original site-specific multi-media works for architecturally significant sites, Koplowitz is a Dean of the Dance Program at the California Institute for the Arts in Los Angeles. "I've been wanted to bring Stephan to San Diego for some time and I'm excited to see what he brings to the project," said Isaacs, who will also be creating a new dance for this year's event.
Rounding out the team of choreographers are Seattle's Mark Haim (recently in San Diego for the critically-acclaimed This Land is Your Land,) and San Diegans Liv Isaacs Nollet, Anne Gehman, and Suzanne Forbes Vierling. Last year's event attracted over 3,000 patrons with many more enjoying the dance by simply walking by! Patrons are encouraged to wear good walking shoes, and to bring some water and a sense of adventure.
