Songwriter Circle: Cal Scott and Richard Moore with special guest Nathaniel Talbot
Monday, August 3, 7:00pm, O'Connor's Vault 7850 S.W. Capitol Hwy Tickets: $12 advance through nathanielcirclepdx.brownpapertickets.com or $15 at the door.
Cal Scott and Richard Moore welcome a young Oregon raised guitar wizard and tunesmith to their bi-monthly circle at O'Connor's Vault in Multnomah Village, Monday, August 3 at 7:00pm.
With influences ranging from prodigious guitar pickers such as Doc Watson, Leo Kottke, and Kelly Joe Phelps, to the more soulful folk poetry of Elliott Smith, Gillian Welch, and Paul Simon, the music represents a unique synthesis of old-time picking and the indie here-and-now. Nathaniel combines masterful finger-style guitar work with thoughtful, melodic vocal lines to create a sonic experience that is truly fresh and impactful. His latest group Nathaniel Talbot Quartet, featuring Portland all-stars Sam Howard (upright bass), Russ Kleiner (drums) and Anna Tivel (violin), are helping him push his music, and the folk genre as a whole, to new dynamic depths and altitudes. Currently, Talbot resides on Whidbey Island in Washinton's Puget Sound, where he runs an organic vegetable farm and continues to write and perform regionally.
"Straying from the radioized brand of folk music that's topping airwaves, Nathaniel Talbot's powerful, swooning voice and impressive instrumentation on Here in the Fields offers listeners a powerful glimpse into the singer's life. It's emotional on a personal level, with a sound that effortlessly drags you into the song while simultaneously feeling like it was recorded in a forestIt's a pleasant treat to stumble upon something like this. A fantastic album from beginning to end". SEATTLE WEEKLY
The usual suspects bookending Nathaniel will be Cal Scott, jack-of-many-genres who writes and performs with The Trail Band and the Scepters, and the word-witty and tune-wise Richard Moore, likely to share a few more scenes from "Rain," his musical-in-the-works about Portland.
Discount advance tickets are $12 each from nathanielcirclepdx.brownpapertickets.com or $15 at the door. More information from Matt Miner at 503-484-8196 or mattminermusic@gmail.com.
