Two stellar songwriters, Chris Kokesh and LJ Booth, join forces for a sunny summer afternoon concert in southwest Portland. Although LJ and Chris are both veterans on the folk music scene, the two did not meet until 2010 when they shared songs around a campfire at Texas's Kerrville Folk Festival. They immediately felt an affinity for each other's music. Sensing that the sum of their collective talents had a powerful potential, they began touring together in 2011. The two were married in 2012 and take great joy in combining their distinctive poetic voices, the vibrant palette of guitars and fiddle, and the sparkle of their harmony singing into a memorable evening of story and song. LJ Booth has earned the respect of peers and critics alike with performances that can be both revelatory and the joyfully raucous. Acoustic Guitar Magazine says, "This gifted singer-songwriter skillfully connects the dots between his own past, present and future with succinct, often powerful lyrics, appealing melodies, and agile fingerpicking." Mike Meyer, KRVM-FM, Eugene, said, "Seasoned performers are priceless in the era of short-term 'discoveries', and LJ Booth is among the most adept and accomplished songwriters and storytellers in the country. His comfortable presence, stellar songs, and stage banter makes for a concert experience that resonates." Chris Kokesh toured nationally for 15 years with the all-women folk and bluegrass quartet Misty River. In 2010 Kokesh decided to pursue her own songwriting career and quickly earned a reputation as an engaging solo performer, as well as a versatile fiddle player and harmony singer. She released her first full-length solo effort October Valentine in 2010, debuting on the Folk DJ charts at #20. Onstage Kokesh reveals the inner workings of her heart with grace and a wry sense of humor. Tickets are $15 advance from chrisljpdx.brownpapertickets.com or $20 at the door.
