A Way Out
Three short plays that offer a glimpse into the lives of women struggling to break away from cycles of abuse, incarceration and codependence, written by the women of Rising Voices.
Community Works' (CW) Rising Voices, a theatre ensemble of formerly incarcerated young women, presents its first short play festival A Way Out hosted by The University of San Francisco's Performing Arts and Social Justice Major.
Through group exploration of their individual stories, the women of Rising Voices challenged themselves to transform their personal narrative into fictionalized one-act plays. The women developed characters who are trying to break free from patterns that are holding them back. Natural dialogue, authentic characters, and real-life situations come alive on stage to make this an honest and dynamic evening of theater.
Rising Voices, a paid internship program of Community Works (CW), is a theatre ensemble of previously incarcerated young women ages 18 to 25 located at the San Francisco Sheriff's Department Women's Reentry Center.
